Claudia McGloin RN AD, ONP, ANP, MC PHLEB
Claudia McGloin originally from Sligo, Ireland has spent the past 14 years living and working in London. She has worked in some of London’s top hospitals and has gained valuable clinical experience, skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings and at varying levels of seniority throughout her career. Her expertise has seen her specialising as an Advanced Trauma and Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner setting up and running her own Nurse Led Clinics in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Outpatient Department. In addition, Claudia was also the Trauma and Orthopaedic Outpatient Department Manager, the Trauma Co-ordinator and Limb Reconstruction Nurse Specialist. For a time Claudia was also Deputy to the Modern Matron for Trauma and Orthopaedics.
Throughout her career, Claudia has conducted numerous Clinical Audits, Clinical Trials and Clinical Research and has presented several posters for presentation. She has also written many articles and has had some published in Surgical Journals. Claudia was invited to speak and present one of her research papers at the European Hip Society Meeting in Antalya in 2006. Claudia has also written a Pin Site Care Patient Information Booklet and has also developed a Protocol for Pin Site Wound Care.
Wound care is her forte which has stemmed from her time working in Trauma & Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery and has led her to continue her career in the Cosmetic Surgery Industry by becoming an Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner. Claudia has been trained to the highest levels and has very high standards in all areas of her specialities. She has been trained in the UK by some of the leading Consultant Plastic Surgeons including Mr. Adrian Richards and by Senior Cosmetic Nurse Training Practitioners to Advanced Levels in Non Surgical Cosmetic procedures. Claudia has completed Advanced Courses in Aesthetic Injection Procedures including Dermal Fillers and Botulinum Toxin and has also completed a Master Class for Dermal Fillers. She is one of a small number of clinicians in the UK and Ireland that is qualified and accredited to carry out the Juvéderm® VOLUMA® treatment for Cheek Augmentation. Claudia carries out each of these cosmetic procedures herself to a very high standard and competency. In addition, Claudia has also trained with Mr. Mark Whiteley Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Leading Varicose Vein Expert at The Whiteley Clinic and is fully trained to carry out Microsclerotherapy.
Claudia regularly attends conferences, courses, study days and seminars to keep up to date in the Aesthetic Industry and to continue her own Professional Development and Training. She also attends training and information days organised by the Cosmetic Surgery Companies to gain further knowledge and updates on the cosmetic products and medical devices and is regularly invited to talks with some of the worlds leading Consultants.
Claudia McGloin is fully qualified and insured to carry out all of these treatments and is registered with the relevant Boards and Bodies relevant to each of the treatments which are known world wide. Claudia also holds dual Nursing Registration in both the UK and Republic of Ireland. She is a member or the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) and An Bord Altranais. Claudia is also a Member of The College of Phlebology, British Association of Sclerotherapists (BAS) and the International Association and Register of Integrative Colon Therapists and Trainers (RICTAT).
Claudia McGloin, Claudia McGloin Clinic and The Vein Clinic Ireland are insured by the world renowned Hamilton Fraser Insurance Company. Medical Aesthetics Courses are also covered for the teaching of Medical Courses to Medical Professionals.
Claudia is listed on several Companies and Organisations websites listing Medical Practitioners that are fully qualified to administer specific procedures, to stock and sell Medical Devices and products and also for the public to check the qualifications of the Medical Professional. These include Genuine Dermaroller, Smith & Nephew and Colonic Association.
Patient Safety is another passion following her own personal experience of Wrong Site Surgery in 2007. Claudia is involved with the Safe Surgery Saves Lives Campaign and sits on the World Health Organisation (WHO) Surgical Checklist Implementation Advisory Board. Claudia has also been liaising with Action Against Medical Accidents (AVMA), National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) and the Association of Perioperative Practice (AFPP) and was invited to speak at the AFPP Annual Congress and Exhibition in Harrogate in 2009. Her story was published in the AVMA Newsletter and the Journal of Perioperative Surgery. Claudia will continue to work within this area to highlight the importance of Patient Safety.
Claudia has regularly throughout her career been a Mentor and Preceptor for students and newly qualified nurses as well as doctors. Her love for teaching others has led her to start developing some training courses at the Claudia McGloin Clinic in association with Medical Aesthetics Courses which is another division of the Claudia McGloin Clinic. Claudia is also open to accepting students on work experience placements.
Claudia McGloin is an Advanced Trauma and Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Colonic Hydrotherapist. She is also a Member of The College of Phlebology and holds dual registration in both the UK and Republic of Ireland. Claudia strictly adheres to the Codes of Conduct, Standards and Ethics as set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and An Bord Altranais and ensures the strictest policy of Patient and Client Confidentiality. Claudia also follows the strict laws and guidelines outlined by the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) on the use of Botulinum Toxin and other Prescription Only Medication (POM).
Claudia has also completed a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Diploma and is registered on the National UK Therapists Register. To date Claudia has not set up a clinic to treat patients suffering with PTSD but this is something that she is looking into and will go hand in hand with a dedicated website for patients who have suffered Wrong Site Surgery.
In December 2011, Claudia founded and opened the Claudia McGloin Clinic in Sligo. She has since opened up The Vein Clinic Ireland which specialises in the removal of Thread Veins from the legs by Microsclerotherapy and is in the process of developing the clinic further. In 2012 she has set up Medical Aesthetic Courses which specialises in training Medical Professionals. Claudia is the Clinical Director of all companies.
Claudia has also set up a specialist Orthopaedic Clinic for the administration of Intra Articular Injections into the Knee Joint for the treatment of Osteoarthritis (OA). She set up and ran this clinic in London for years. She has seen the benefits to patients receiving this treatment and has conducted research into this treatment. She is also in the process of expanding the Trauma & Orthopaedics Clinic.
Claudia has also completed a Minor Surgery Course in London with a Consultant Plastic Surgeon that she used to work with at the Royal London Hospital and is now able to perform Minor Surgical Procedures. This will see her take on the role as Nurse Consultant and she also hopes to progress her surgical career and perform other Surgical Procedures such as Carpal Tunnel. She is in the process of setting up this Minor Surgery Clinic at the Claudia McGloin Clinic.
Claudia has also successfully completed an Advanced Cosmetic Procedures Course with Sterex in Birmingham, UK and has incorporated this with the Minor Surgery Clinic to enable the safe removal of ‘Lumps and Bumps’ from the skin. She holds regular Micro Surgical Clinics in Sligo.
